Nigeria is no doubt the largest economy in the West African sub-region with a population of 150 million people, it is the most populated African country endowed with both human and natural resources with an economy supercharged by an oil price way ahead of anything. It’s ministry of finance ever dreamed of, it is undoubtedly Africa’s richest country. In recent years though the country has witnessed economic reforms which has brought about to the exploration of other sectors.

Lagos state being the heart of the country’s commercial activities is located in the South Western part of Nigeria, and the home of aquatic splendor. It experiences two distinct climatic seasons, the dry season from October to February and the Wet season from march to September.

The state is referred to has the centre of excellence this is where the venue is actually situated, the state remains the nation’s economic, industrial and commercial nerve centre, This makes West African Health 2007 a must attend for you.

Visa Applications
Valid visa is compulsory requirement to all visitors to enter Nigeria. A one month tourist visa is usually sufficient for most visitors though it is possible to arrange 3 months and 6 months multiple entry visas for regular visitors. All visitors must obtain visa approval from the Nigerian Immigration Department before a visa is issued. Global Resources & Projects can arrange for a visa authorization to be sent to the Nigerian embassy or consulate where the visa is to be collected once the following information has been forwarded: Full name, Date of birth, Nationality, Passport number and Sex. This information should be forwarded at least two month before the departure. One copy of the visa authorization will be sent to the embassy or consulate where the visa is to be collected and a second will be forwarded to the person collecting the visa. A fee is payable to Global Resources & Projects for the visa authorization and to the embassy or consulate for the visa stamping. The person collecting the visa must complete two application forms and hand these in with two passport photos when collecting the visa.

Currency and Exchange
The currency of Nigeria is naira, at the time of writing 1 naira is equivalent to USD 131, 240 (Pounds) and 160 Euros. These currencies are widely accepted anywhere within the country. (this is subject to change).

The Central Bank and commercials banks are good places for changing your money in Nigeria. The BAT investment bureau de change located at the Airport Hotel Ikeja is equally an authorized establishment for currency change. There are authorized Bureau de change all over the country. And you can change your money at the airport.

 

Language
Nigeria has rich culture with over 250 ethnic groups. Most ethnics has owned languages but it can be divided into 3 linguistic group and English language is the national language.

Since independence in 1960, English language has been widely spoken and accepted with some of her citizen fluent in French which is another popular language.

Religion
Christianity and Islam are the two main religions you’ll find in the country. Larger part of the Northern region in the country practices Islam and Christianity dominants the Western and Eastern region.

Shopping
Artifacts, Adire (the traditional attire of the Yoruba’s that dominant Lagos state), wood carvings, painting, coral beads, ceramics & handicrafts are things to be looked out for when in Nigeria.

Climate
Mostly semiarid, tropical region, sunny days, cool nights.

Accessibility
Murtala Mohammed International Airport is approximately 1hr 30 mins drive to Expo Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites the Exhibition and Conference venue. All other hotels available for the conference are around the axes of the event location.

Time Difference
Standard time is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. This means that when it is (13h00) in Lagos, it is (12h00) in London.

Tour 1 (Eko Tourist Beach Resort, Akodo)
This is an ultra modern resort with facilities for conferences and picnic. It has 150 semi-detached chalet of various categories. The beach fronting the resort is very serene, attractive and very wide; having space for more than 2,000 visitors at a time. It is located off kilometer 72 Lagos. Epe Expressway, Akodo, Ibeju Lekki local government area.

Tour 2 (Suntan Beach Badagry)
It is a stretch of beaches located close to the historical town of Badagry. on the beaches one can find beautiful huts for relaxation where individuals and families could sit down and have a picnic around the coconut grooves or in a small rentable seaside huts.

Tour 3 (Tarkwa Bay)
Tarkwa Bay can easily be reached by boat from Victoria Island. Pickners take advantage of it’s serenity to recreate. Boats can be rented from the Boat clubs for sailing.

Tour 4 Slave Routes
There were Five (5) Slave routes during the slave trade era and there were named after the countries, which dominated the routes. These routes, which can be located by the signposts, are Dutch Route, which runs from the salve market at Posukoh quarters of the slave port. Others are the Portuguese Route, English Route, French Route and the Brazilian Route. The most popular of these routes culminated on Gberefu Island which was the Point of No Return.
